The Day You Need '27 Points' To Define Style

Tagged by Chi.

1. Job:
I am a yoga teacher. Despite not teaching 15 classes a week anymore, I'd like to think I am still a yoga teacher. I'd also like to think yoga teachers are walking examples of high prana state, they don't have to be teaching in a class to inspire. If I can quote Azmi Samdjaga, "Being a yoga teacher is the highest form of human being one could be."

So being a yoga teacher is not my job. I love and live my job.

2. Best Sartorial advice from my parents:
Mom
: Wear baju kurungs with super high heels.
As much as I love adidas Superstars and Bounce, I will never do a Sharifah Amani in Sepet.
Dad: Always always take care of your toenails,
"Kalau kuku kaki pun tak boleh jaga, macam mana kamu nak jaga laki?"
.
FYI, I take care of Supertall's toenails as well, or maybe since my favourite pedicurist takes care of mine :)

3. Style icons:
Carrie Bradshaw particularly in SATC The Movie

4. Describe your personal style:
Dailymuscle says I suffer from 'colourcititis'. I can't agree more. I feel that I have to always pair and match what top I wear with the pants or footwear or bag or headband I put on. When teaching, my tank / bra top (on days my tummy decides to behave) has to be paired with matching coloured pants, or my slippers.

On the days I don't teach, you'll always find me in either plain coloured or statement tee with a micromini in washed denim. And in either super flat pumps or super high heels.

5. I build my daily look around:
My hair do that day.
Big hair = short skirt.
Hot hair = hot pants.
Tied up hair = tie-style Bali / Thai pants.
Headband = belt.

6. Personal style quirk:
Statement t-shirts. Can't get enough of them.

Azmi Samdjaga
(my new bff, yes) forced me to wear these tees we found in Pacific Plaza, Singapore during my visit two weeks ago. They read,
1. "If you can take the shit, I can take the pain."
2. (front) "Wanna see my favourite yoga position?" (back) "69"
Oohhhh, tidak berani.

7. Favorite designers:
Stella McCartney for adidas. I love her cut, her colours, her mission statement and her stand against animal cruelty. Many of her bigger sized adidas gadgets are tagged with 'I am a sporty vegetarian'.

I read somewhere that anyone who interviews Stella McCartney will be asked, "Are you vegetarian?" by her personally. And if your answer is no, she will reply with a smile, "You should, I'll tell you why." I wish I have her guts and capacity to enlighten people without offending them, one day.

I also love high-end yoga lines from Lulu Lemon and Donna Karan's Urban Zen, although their smallest sizes are still tad too big for me, and their price range is a little of out my Starving Yoga Instructor budget. And not that I have to buy any yoga / working out clothes, anyway :)

8. Most cherished item:
This adidas by Stella McCartney trenchcoat.

It comes with attached and super chic iPod or mp3 player pocket. This coat is also eqipped with built-in Recco Avalanche Rescue Reflector that can send signals if you are trapped in snow avalanche or something like that. Not that we get snowed and not that we can wear trenchcoat here unless you are either AC Mizal or Adlin Aman Ramli as konco-konco Aznil in Cicakman.

9. Favorite item of clothing:
Comfortable sundress that I don't look pregnant in and
big aviators that I can hide my dark eye circles under

10. I feel best wearing:
Casual Y-back singlet and cargo pants that
I can go to my yoga class to, run my errands in and have my lunch with.

10. The first thing I look at in another Sartorialist's outfit:
Some people just don't have the look and style to carry something expensive.
They can wear the most latest and expensive LV but the LV might just look fake on them.
On the other hands, some can wear a total no-brand and make it look like a thousand bucks.

11. I always break this fashion rule:
It's not my choice to flaunt my cleavage.
Most of the time, I didn't even try :(

12. I never break this fashion rule:
Never wear fleshy top with fleshy bottom.
If your skirt is mini, cover up up top.
If your top is skimpy, wear long pants / skirts.
Most of the time, too little of everything is too much of nothing.

AND,
if I may add

For girls, if you are wearing sleeveless top or above the knee pants / skirt,
make sure you have SHAVED!

13. Never caught wearing:
Anything with VPL. I almost don't wear undies that are not G-strings.
And lucky beings will never find me I will never be caught dead with bra and undie that don't match.

14. Most underrated item in menswear/womenswear:
Hmmm, I think it's sad that most Malaysians still take their work out clothes for granted.
IMHO, because they don't work out and play sports seriously as well.

15. Dress to impress who:
My own two eyes.

16. Shine your own shoes:
I don't need to wear shoes that need shining.
I save that for my Batmobile.

17. Favorite stores:
(That I can afford lah kan? I don't see the point of claiming Bottega Venetta and Chloe when I don't own a piece of theirs and never have been in the stores myself). When I am not in adidas, I am always in a piece of Topshop. They carry UK size 6, just my size.

18. My next "must have" purchase:
More of these amazing adidas Techfit Powerweb Yoga that I wore for adidas Women Event '08 yesterday. The magical shiny 'powerweb' stripes make stretching all the easier and less painful, believe me!

18. I skimp when buying:
Apron / fisherman's pants that I rate next-to most comfortable yoga pants.
I have them in almost every colour, I keep buying them when I travel to islands and I try to get cheaper price by the next time I buy them!

19. I splurge on:
My car?
Because I think that's my literally, biggest accessory and I always leave my house in that.

20. Guilty pleasure
:
When someone says, "I hate you. Why don't I look like
that in that."

21. Cologne:
Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker.
I can see and smell myself in this for years to come.

Skincare
:
The Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil.
Or when Stella McCartney's CARE line reaches our shore.
Or when adidas Skincare & Body Range starts plastering me in their billboards (hint hint).

22. Most stylish city (Milan, Paris, London, New York, other):
Sadly I have only been to London and Paris, the last time I went was when I was 14 (I didn't have the priviledge and luxury to further my study abroad). I will visit New York by mid 2009 so that makes Shanghai and Singapore my style cities for now.

23. When I was high school I wore?
Ooooh this, you don't want to know.

My high school was an all-girl boarding school in which I lived at for 5 years
(I wonder how I survived too, fret not).

For weekend outings, we had to wear STF-printed on hideous green batik.
For playing hockey, we had to pakai tudung (but most of us improvised it by covering our hair with Alien Workshop or No Fear
bandanna, HA HA HAAAA!).

Back in my boarding school years, wayyyyyyyyyyy oversized t-shirt was so in. Baju kurung with track-bottom (you know those Cheetah, Forest and Schwarzenbach berkilat with cotton lining inside), or oversized basketball t-shirt with kain biru muda baju kurung was in too. Those who were daring enough to wear those to dining hall, or ko-op, or surau, won big time brownie points. HA HA HA HA AHAAAA! Saper budak STF yang baca ni je boleh gelakkan diri sendiri sama-sama OK!

24. Sports:
I still play futsal, golf, badminton and rockclimbing.
I used to sprint (I won gold medal for 100m and 110 meter-hurdles when I was in Form 5 [STF Sportsday '99], jangan main-main!) and played hockey competitively for my school, district and uni.
I watch tennis, football and never miss watching
MHL (Malaysia Hockey League) at the stadium every year and every possible TNB & EY match for the hot guys same reason guys watch The O.C.

25. Favorite fashion magazine:
I don't read fashion magazine except those on the rack of my favourite salon or nail place, which explains my (non-exixtense) fashion sense. Although I secretly dig our own
GLAM for familiar faces and our local celebs' closets.

26. Favorite vacation spot:
Bali, to unwind. Singapore, to shop. New York, to burn my wallet and for the love of SATC.
And someone supertall suggested that we go to Maldives soon :)

27. Favorite neighbourhood restaurants:
Devi's Corner, Bangsar for breakfast with my housemates (none of us work 9 to 5 so we all go for breaakfast at 10am); Devi's Corner, Hartamas for teh tarik; Bestari, Hartamas for Indomee goreng; Aji Don Plaza Damas for their Johor food; Sri Nirwana Maju for its' vegetarian chicken and Khanna PJ for its' banana leaf rice.

Tagging Nellie, Joyce The Fairy and Evie.

The Day I Met (or made?) Mini Ninie(s)

Dear Diary,

About a month ago, I was given the honour by my favourite local fashion website, Tongue In Chic to dress up two dolls for their launch. In my understanding, the dolls were given to (was it?) 50 of KL's designers / artists / fashionistas. Which part of me screams any of the mentioned, I also donchknow but I thank them anyway. I had so much fun doing them, you had noooo idea!

So this uncreative me was stuck for a week not knowing how to dress up the dolls.
Near the deadline (or was it past deadline, he hee..), I was desperate and my unstable state of mind (that time) told me to dress up the dolls as, ME.

First Mini Ninie was inspired by one of my favourite adidas by Stella McCartney tops.

Second Mini Ninie was dressed like how The Yoga Instructor always dresses up to teach her yoga classes. Bra top paired with same coloured fisherman / Bali / Thai pants. Tapi kalau sportsbra kaler hijau, janganlah pakai lipstick kaler hijau pula ya? Walaupun yoga center anda sedang promo Green Yoga whateverrr..

(Mini Ninie's clothes were made from ribbons and wires and cross-stitch threads bought from Czip Lee, Bangsar. Thanks to Chi that I bumped into there [what coincidence!], for the recommendation.)

Both Ninie and her Mini Ninie-s also completed their looks with elastic H&M headbands (I have almost 8 of them now, in different colours and styles, hooray!). Great finish to a bad-hair-day dan supaya itu fringe tidak masuk mulut ketika downward-facing dog atau headstand.

And so came the much-anticipated launch of Tongue In Chic one rainy Wednesday night at The Apartment Downtown in KLCC where my plus-one and I arrived oh-so fashionably late.

There were..
soooo many preeeeeettty dollsssss!
I felt so malu..
My Mini Ninie-s looked soooo tiny..

But that still didn't stop me from taking pictures with my Mini-s :).
Although I didn't get to bag home my susah-payah made Minis-s :(.

Chi was my plus-one (and photographer, thank you babe!) that night. She has posted a nice(r!) entry and more pictures of the party in her blog although it is not my say to link up her new blog here, he hee.. So, just be nice, content and grateful with what I can share here, OK?

I just freshly coloured my hair that evening which explained the extra blondie and nicely set hair. Thank you my lovely cutie loyal stylish who always enjoys doing up my hair up high whenever I told him I have parties and events to attend. I love you long time.

Chi and I showing off our (or lack of) back muscles and make-up skill, he hee.. Chi's pose and angle terbaik punya kan? I was the pushy art director for that pose of hers, thanks to watching Jay Manuel on the endless repeats of ANTM.

(Speaking of make-up, there's this make-up tag that I have always been wanting to post-up. If time permits, maybe you'll see the bahan-bahan why my make-up always soooo over, tomorrow. Kot..)

Oh, and for the TIC launch, I actually tried to copy this look of Carrie Bradshaw somewhere at the end of SATC The Movie, which I hope all of you have seen it by now.

Pictures are captured from Sex And The City The Movie the book that I bought in Kinokuniya at Takashimaya Sq, Singapore.

Although my dress is so not from Alexander McQueen dan my heels juga bukan dari Manolo Blahnik, I think the neckline, the length of the dress and the almost-very-same-shaped glasses copied the look, dalam 60% pun jadilah.

Just in case you are curious, or if you want to find more reasons to criticize me,
scroll through for where I got my wear:

Dress
: Shoes, Shoes, Shoes
Clutch: Shoes, Shoes, Shoes juga
Shoes: Bukan Shoes, Shoes, Shoes tapi Aldo
Belt: Zara
Glasses: cK
Hair set: Raymond from Peek-A-Boo, Bangsar (he almost fainted when I asked him if it's wise to put up a blue bird on my hair as per Carrie's wedding do)
Nail & Toes Colour: Glitters, Bangsar ViIIage using OPI's Eiffel For This Color (from new OPI: France colours, I love them!) Even my manicurists got sick of my alternate choice over Moon Over Mumbai and Get Me To The Taj On Time from their last OPI: India colours. They even had, or still have this regal blue colour named Yoga-Ta Get This Blue! Tapi tak pernah berani lah nak pakai blue, nanti lipstick kena sentiasa biru juga.. And my mom will pengsan and be turned to blue too)

.. or keep (or start if you haven't started) checking the cool and rawking Tongue In Chic website for new and hip places of what-to-wear and where-to-buy!

Thanks again, Tongue In Chic for the fashionable launch
and most importantly, for the fashion for clue-less and style-less girls like me!

The Day I Had Parties In The City

Dear Diary,

For the past week or two, I attended evening parties that were filled with fun and full of fashionist faces.
My new big hairdo makes dressing up all the more fun!

JIMMY CHOO (KLCC)

I can never afford a Jimmy Choo.

In my fuel-to-feed-my-car-is-more-important thinking, I wouldn't spend RM3000 for a pair of shoes and RM7000 for a piece of carrywear (although they are exceptionally and painfully beautiful!) when I can buy 10 of RM300 shoes and 10 of RM700 handbags (or even 100 of RM70 handbags, like the patent green one I wore to the party that I bought three hours prior at OWL boutique in Hartamas Shopping Centre)! Tak? Yelah, takde duit senanglah cakap, he hee..

Although I was close to swiping for a RM6+++ handbag since guests were entitled to 30% discount on displays in store, I came to my senses but ended up spending more than RM600 at La Senza when the party finished. Haiyaaa..

JASPAL (Pavilion)

Bersama kawan-kawanku yang bermata hijau dan kelabu

Bersama si supermodel dan KL's hottest dentists

Jaspal is a Thai brand that chose Malaysia as it's first store outside Thailand. Their pieces are comfortably affordable (price range is almost like Zara, slightly pricier than MNG but almost half-priced from Ted Baker) and surprisingly very fashionable when being put on!

Check out their cool belts and tunic dresses, perfect for officewear and casual dressy days!

ADIDAS ORIGINALS (Midvalley)

3-tier berani-mati mini skirt that belongs to my 7-old sister paired with adidas Originals limited edition 'I adidas Kuala Lumpur' tee and handbag.
Copper heart-shaped pendant chain and 4-inched heels are from Aldo.

Practical bags and cute shoes that I want, I want, I want (adidas hq, *hint hint*!)

3-striped shoes, shoes, shoes galore!

With Mila wazzup, wazzup!

That was me with Jehan Miskin, another adidas ambassador posing as the store's mannequins for pictures. Jehan and I hanged out for a while after the party and somehow he ended up in two of my classes (the last class was advanced pulak tu!) the very same evening.

If you gonna see more of us together at Aji Don post-yoga or at Camp5 rockclimbing, tolong jangan gossipkan kami. I can't be dating two actors at the same time! Nanti Melodi dan Harian Metro will happily come up with headline 'Arash Mohamad dan Jehan Miskin berebut bekas peserta realiti TV yang sudahlah kalah, tidak popular pulak tu guru yoga'.

Congratulations to adidas for their latest store opening in Midvalley (the shop is situated where the Nose shop was).

So yes, I had so much fun attending parties in the city
and I'm sure I'll have more fun this coming weekend for
I am going to shop and have watch Sex And The City The Movie in the Lion City!
