The Day Only Pretty Girls Get Married

Dear Diary,

I always always always ask (style Carrie Bradshaw tulis column),
'why are all brides always so beautiful OR only beautiful girls get to be brides?'

Sometime last week, I attended my best friend's brother wedding
and it felt more than an 'abang-kawan-punya-wedding'
as the brother slash the groom was the catalyst
that hooked me and Supertall together, a year ago.

There, I witnessed
(one of, since my other bestfriends, Asma & Juliana, masa kahwin pun sangat-sangat cantik!)
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BRIDE.

Isn't she like, the prettiest girl you've ever seen?

Mr. & Mrs. Bert

(all photos of bride and broom are from the bride's Facebook,
most of them are by Saiful Nang himself & his Candid Syndrome)

Since the bride is half-Pakistani, the pre-wedding rituals were extensive!
Her Mehndi Night (Malam Berinai) was almost out of a Bollywood movie!

1. MEHNDI NIGHT

Kami yang bersiap sakan menepati tema Bollywood

Bersama adik-adik perempuan Abang Bert, Tasha dan Nina.
Oh, kami bertiga sama-sama bersekolah di STF, terima kasih.

We were each other's first friend in STF.
Masa kat sekolah, kalau bergaduh, main simbah-simbah air teh kat tudung.
Dah besar ni, masih selalu bergaduh tapi main bakar-bakar extension rambut, KIDDING!

The disguised groom and the Supertall.
The (at that time, to-be) groom was not even supposed to be there,
so the to-be's relatives were actually playing guessing game of
which one of these boys is actually the future husband.

M. Nasir who is Abang Bert's uncle sang Raikan Cinta for them.
Terlalu meaningful OK? Kami anak-anak dara bersuka ria berbhangra to M. Nasir's song atas pentas.

2. NIKAH NIGHT

Gadis-gadis dulang

Mekap masing-masing masa ni dah cair, dulang berat!

Lepas tau bukan nikah dalam masjid,
tudung semua terbang.

Ni gambar 'di samping Supertall di samping sampingnya'.

3. RECEPTION NIGHT

Useless fact, Tasha dan Nina dua-dua hire personal make-up artist untuk malam tu OK? IMHO, their make-up yang dibuat sendiri for the previous two nights were so much better!

Rasa macam ambik gambar dengan Kris Dayanti!

Kris Dayanti yang mata hijau matching dengan hijau baju, tak tahan!

The groom's extemded family.
Tasha kata aku pun kira family apa, aaaahh.. so sweet!

I shed tears at their reception (no surprise there) TWICE, as the groom's sister sang Martina McBride's Destiny beautifully for her brother and new sister, and during the bride's father's speech that if I can paraphrase,

"My parents were married for 55 years before my dad passed away a year ago. I still remember witnessing their fights even after being married for so long. I believe the recipe to a happy marriage is to give and take. To fight and make up. For Bert & Nas and all other young couples, do not make a big deal of small fights as no two persons are the same."

Although celebrities and friends' divorces do worry me,
I still buy loving couples and great love stories.

Whileeeeeeeeeeee we are at it, ahemmm..
the Mehndi Night was extra sepcial for me and Supertall too
as that very night was our first anniversary night.

Si Superpendek and Superpanjang

I melt everytime he smiles

And if you do have more questions
other than 'who cares it's your anniversary',
let me prepare the expected ones for you:

1. Baju-baju korang cantiklah! Beli kat mana?

Nina & Tasha punya baju (yang sangat cantik OK?), believe it or not, beli off-the-rack kat Bandung.
Baju Ninie yang takde size beli siap ni, ditempah dari Syomir Izwa.

2. Adik-adik Bert yang cantik-cantik tu, dah berpunya ke?

The groom's sisters are still single and very available.

Saper nak aku jadik catalyst pulak,
sila hantar CV berserta gambar terbaru.

3. Cik Ninie pulak, bila nak kahwin?

Saya tak cantik (bila tak mekap.
Although, macam lepas mekap, cantik sangat lah kan).

Makanya bila confident tak mekap pun cantik,
berani bangun tidur sebelah laki tanpa mekap,
baru lah kahwin, KOT.

Selamat pengantin baru Abang Bert & Kak Nas.
Jarang jumpa pasangan pengantin terlalu cantik macam you berdua
(juga jarang ada abang kawan yang suka belanja kita karaoke, he hee..)

Insyaallah kalau ada lebih rezeki bila-bila nanti saya dan Supertall
melawat anda berdua di Dublin ye?

The Day I Can't Help To Not Feel Disgusted

subject Juliana Ibrahim sudah berkahwin

Saudari Diva,

Merujuk

Sekian, terima kasih.

Ninie Ahmad

The Day My Lovely Julie Never Looked This Lovely: Part II

Dear Diary,

Two weeks have passed,
so many things have happened,
so many things to share.

But until I get my mojo (or wireless connection in my room again) back,

I am wishing my best friend, Juliana Ibrahim all the love and happiness in Malaysia and Holland combined. I can't help to not tear up while watching her wedding's slide presentation up onstage last night (pengapit sepatutnya lap air mata pengantin, ni terbalik!) and while reading this.

I feel your happiness, sayang..

With Juliana's wedding last night, my 3 times quota for being my best friend's maid-of-honour is filled. Unless Nellie gets married first and she wants her catalyst to be her maid-of-honor, I have served my duty.

And no, I didn't catch Julie's bouquet.
So I think, ya.. Nellie will definitely get married first ;)
