Dear Ninie,
All these while I always wondered how you could be so smart in coming up with the concept of 'BeYoga' especially in all the clever taglines and copywriting when you are not a marketing nor an advertising person.

Tonight, and watching the latest episode of Ugly Betty on 8TV (right now, 7 April 2009), I realised that you have copied the concept of 'Be(something)' from this series of Betty presenting her 'BeMagazine' idea! ohmygod... how could you think that people, Malaysians, especially, would not notice this?

What have you got to say about this? Or I am very sure that you will not publish my comment.

I have nothing else to say except:
  • I have never watched ANY episode of Ugly Betty my entire life
  • and that Be Yoga concept, tagline and brand development were planned and put to papers in design back in October 2008 lagi. Not today or on 7 April 2009. Aiyooo. So wild lah your imagination, creative sungguh (macam I ;D)!

I'd like to take that 'clever taglines and copywriting when you are not a marketing nor an advertising person' as a compliment though ;)

I might not have a marketing degree nor with with ad firms
but haven't I been self-taglining / copywriting everything here for the past five years
and published two yoga magazines on my own?


P.S. Bebudak STF yang selalu menyaksikan atau dapat 'surat cinta @ message' daripada Ninie mesti baca entri ni sambil ketawa dan berkata, "You tak tau ke, Ninie dari sekolah lagi memang kaki tulis slogan / buat design / conteng dinding (?) camgini?".

Oh yes, you should've seen my Folio Kemahiran Hidup / Geografi for PMR, babe!

aw come on.

everybody knows that these episodes can be downloaded way before it is shown on our local tv. people have watched heroes, damages, prison break, ugly betty, desperate housewives long before they reached our shores lah.

it cannot be too similar that 'be' concept.

you can say what ever you like but a lot of us knows you are lying. writing on yoga and coming up with creative concepts are 2 different things lah.

Cant you guys just leave her alone? The girl is trying to make a decent business here and moreover, I dont know what you all get out of accusing her again and again for some shit over Ugly Betty. Yes, she can say whatever she likes, because she knows herself, confident of her business, her ideas, and you DONT.

If you think it any good here of putting out accusations to people is any better compared to plagiarism, then think again.

Ninie, i just believe that nothing of this can bring you down nor upset you further. Coincidences happen everywhere and you're not spared. I love you and believe in you too.

If you have been following Ugly Betty, she(Betty) has a penchant for everything B (Her necklace, her book, keychain, etc!). I wasn't surprised to see last night's episode.

And I can assure you, the "Be" concept has been used in the past. It's how you represent it.

some people just being envy of ur success. as a designer myself i find that tagline/ slogan or design are subjective. some people think the same way, some people not. my college did kinda the same theme ('BE') FOUR years back. can i blame u for having having BE Yoga as ur company name? hell no. the word 'be' itself is a strong word for motivations for anyone. be strong, be confident, be yourself... etc. so come on people. think beyond what ur mind can ever think of.

so i love you for not watching such stupid show and for publishing such stupid accusation aaaaaanywey.

get a lifeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, people!

So what if it's similar. My company has been using the word 'BE' for some events we do, and its been a while now and NO it is not from Ugly Betty.

It's as if Ugly Betty invented the word. Hmm ;)

I know it's not about the word nor the tag line lah. It's the 'tak senang lihat orang lain senang' but hello, at least she is proving something on her own. Duh!

Those of us who know about the plans on the opening of your yoga studio in DP would have known about the concept of beyoga from Azmi since October 2008 after he went for the photo-shoot. He had already told us about the concept for the classes - “begin” for beginners, “being” for intermediate and “beyond” for advance students.

so what? adakah semua orang mesti nak tumpukan perhatian kepada satu-satu benda sahaja tanpa memikirkan kebolehan yang lain?

take yuna. penyanyi/penulis yang juga merupakan pelajar ijazah undang-undang tu. menyanyi dan law tu sama ke? tak kan. tapi apa salahnya kalau ada kebolehan bakat semulajadi.

dan saya percaya sifat kreatif seseorang itu boleh jadi semulajadi. ada orang tak pernah belajar melukis. tapi memang secara lahiriah dah pandai melukis dengan cantik.

kawan saya. tak pernah belajar fashion designing. tapi kalau nak suruh dia lukis design baju, macam pro. kami pelajar law ya. bukan nak berlagak. tapi kawan-kawan saya ramai yang pandai menari, berlakon, berdikir barat, ambil tender buat multimedia untuk syarikat besar.

semua tu tak ada kena mengena dengan apa yang kami pelajari di kelas. tapi kami boleh.

apa lah masalah si xylena ni.

Well, during our high school years, Calvin Klein perfume also used the "BE" concept for their CK Be perfume.

So, like the rest has already said,whoever in this world can use that concept\, and it does not necessarily have to come from Ugly Betty la kan *winks*

A friend of mine used to be a (silent) partner at a small yoga studio here in the US since 1989. The yoga studio is also Be Yoga. One of the taglines is 'Become'. I have never met Nini, I don't know who she is, and I know my friend have never conducted business overseas, but their Yoga studio happened to have the same name. Just to illustrate the fact that coincidence arises. And of course, there is no chance in hell that this Nini might, oops, 'copied' the name - we are in a small town somewhere. Not even Google-worthy. And of course, when the studio opened AGES ago, there was no "Ugly Betty" to 'inspire' them to use the "Be" concept. Come on, people. Move on.

i took the liberty of checking out the episode this woman mentioned. i think she didn't mean just the tagline.. it's the entire concept of B (of B Magazine not 'Be'). somehow it does sound too good to be coincidental but since i do not know you, i would like to believe it to be coincidental.

the big kahunas in those major advertising agencies are missing what could be the industry's most talented copywriter ever existed in malaysia! i'm sure yasmin ahmad would already be persuading you to join in her team. bravo ninie.

that lena woman is so wrong about u. u are much better than scriptwriter of betty. even if you copied, you are like the japanese, they copy but improvise into much better ideas.

betty only siad be thoughtful, be confident, be yourself but ninie has proven through the strength of time that ninie is the greatest because ninie got more vocabulary after the 'be' word.

ninie, in achieving success there would surely be people who do not know you who would say things like this. you are not the first. there's another highly successful business in the curve damansara being accused of copying by a website, with proof and all. but the owner just keeps quiet and ignore because she is the one getting all the profits.

i think you appear less relaxed by counter-replying to these kind of accusations. makes me even doubt your practise in yoga because you do not seem to be calm one bit.

I wish to remind you that starting a business is NOT YET a success. Making it run by itself after 5 years IS a success.

Entrepreneurship is not easy (but fulfilling) and as much as ninie is showing she is living the life here (f1 la, concerts la etc), paying rent, paying salary, getting MORE people to join your place is a very daunting task.

u always have to sacrifice (in the beginning) to feed this monster baby (the business).

it takes balls of steel to stay afloat :)

just want to share :D

so rather than people envy of her success, i think people are more envious she can do what she wants while others sit and rot on a desk

(unless you like it it's ok! :D nothing wrong with earning good money)

I don't think that by defending herself, Ninie is portraying a negative image of a yoga instructor. She is doing the right thing, telling the truth! Unlike some people yang sesuka hati nak assume yang tak elok and tulis yg merepek je.

For me, kalau takde benda elok nak cakap, then shut up! Takyah nak sakitkan hati orang. And if you wants to accuse her of doing something, selidik dulu betul-betul. Kalau dah buat fitnah, tak ke doa besar tu nyah?
