The Day I Met My Hero

Dear Diary,

I had the honor of attending the premiere screening of Shuhaimi Baba's latest movie - Waris Jari Hantu (WJH) last morning, courtesy of Zai, the iron lady behind APV.

At first I was pretty sceptical about it since I didn't really enjoy her last Pontianak-s and I had really bad experience of Jangan Pandang Belakang. And NOT because they were scary, mind you. Not that I've always enjoyed movies that scare me anyway. To me, watching (bad and) horror movies is like going on a roller coaster ride, it's your choice to hop in it, but once you're on the verge of losing your control over gravity, you'd hate yourself for agreeing to do it in the first place.

But wow. Waris Jari Hantu. Wow.
I'm gonna double and capital it. WOW WOW.
Two hours well spent on a local movie.
If I may rephrase, it is not a horror movie.
Although its' CGI can still be improved,
I can still say it's a good local movie.
Easily my favorite number of Shumi after Layar Lara.
I screamed, I laughed, I cried, all in one seating.

And little did I know what WJH if not it's premiere had in store for me.

Firstly,

I saw four big names that I can proudly say - I have touched their spines. No prize for guessing them right but, no, I have never touched Rashid Salleh's. So bukan, bukan Rashid. Belum.

Rashid Salleh.
After WJH, I don't think I can ever look at Rashid the same again.
Kenot. Susah. Kelakar. Sakit perut ketawa. Sampai nangis.
Imagine Rashid in wig, bad make-up and with boobs.

And this premiere around, I was not seated behind Yusry.

BUT,

I had the chance to meet, chat and take picture with the ONLY contestant of a reality TV show that I actually voted and rooted for. Not Mawi lah, doink.

But FAIZAL of One In A Million

for he sings the main soundtrack for WJH titled Kasih Tercipta.

I can recall how bad I wanted him to win OIAM,
how hard I cheered for him at OIAM grand finale,
how much I voted for him,

It broke my heart when he didn't win,
although he performed his very best
and he was clearly the best contestant.
And I came as a supporter.
Imagine his heartbreak.
RM1mil at stake.

My Friendster review

So when Zai and I approached him for photos,
AS USUAL I just had to use my pick-up line,
"But I am a yoga instructor, do you mind striking a yoga pose with me?"

To which he answered, "Aren't you the Nescafe girl?"!

Either he really did watch Kickstart or he reads my blog. Like, now. Ha haa. I don't feel the need to say how I floated, flew and smiled like a mad woman during the 5 minutes I had chatting with him, since he's obviously married.

But who am I to deny the connection :P when he said,
"I feel you. I definitely feel you. I was in the same boat."

Pengsan.
Terbang.
Melayang.

"I only wanted to sing. I didn't win but I never imagined by not winning a singing competition, I am now hosting (Gangstarz) and singing the soundtrack of my favorite director's movie. You just have to stay strong, work even harder, prove them you are the winner, your way. Your luck might not be here but believe me, not winning is not losing."

So yeah, at the premiere,
not only I met my Superman,
but in him, I found my hero and
he makes me feel like I'm my own hero too.

We runner-ups rock. Period.
