and I won't stop saying it until more of you GET IT.
If you
If you can't see the importance of doing it for your health,
do it for YOUR EARTH.

It is not that hard, really. Really.
It's nothing religious, AT LEAST NOT TO ME
and anyone's selfish and shallow defense
e.g. "Tak tau ke, ayam dan lembu yang kita bunuh / makan tu masuk syurga tau!"
is almost like saying,
"Kalau kita rampas kapal terbang dan langgar bangunan negara kafir, kita mati syahid tau!",
AT LEAST TO ME.

Don't get me started on arrogance, empathy and cruelty done to the animals
(although you can't help not to have felt bad reading the quote, no?),
I'm talking plain simple HEALTH and healthy ENVIRONMENT here.
DO KNOW THAT,
1. Because of its complexity, meat and its kind have to rot in your stomach first
before they can be digested?
2. Energy consumed for A PIECE of meat, lamb or pork to arrive to your plate
is enough to lit 100 watt lightbulb for three weeks?
3. A KILOGRAM of meat contributes 36.4 kilogram of CO2 and
emission of C02 from A COW for a year is equal to energy consumed to move your car for 70,000 km?
(from documentary film 'Meat The Truth')
4. Livestock farming generates more greenhouse gas emission worldwide
than all cars, lorries, trains, boats and planes in this planet added together!
5. If you don't eat meat JUST FOR A SINGLE MEAL in a day,
you save 7.6 times more and faster than your house's energy consumption in ONE YEAR?
6. Our Hollywood heroes - Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and not to mention,
rockstars alike - Chris Martin, Thom Yorke, Brandon Boyd, Alanis Morissette, Jack Johnson
ARE ALL VEGETARIANS? They can look THAT GOOD without meat, so can you.

be responsible

Yeah, less farmland, more forest if we stopped eating meat.
I've stopped eating meat but seafood - it's something I can't get away from (yet) in the sushi land. sigh...
hmmm... why dont' we reduce the usage of hairsprays, usage of leather shoes/ jackets or usage of plastic bags? :D :D :D
Nope, this won't be a negative response. I actually respect you for doing so. I also have a friend who became a vegan, for the animals. She has been trying to 'convert' me! It's hard but I'll try, at least eat lesser.
thought you'd like to know: in GQ june 2009, christian bale stated that he's no longer a full vegetarian.
Christian Bale's GQ interview
coy360:
It is proven that 'sustainable fish' is slightly more environmental-friendly that livestock farming so, take your time :).
Hopefully when we'd be fully ready, it is not too late!
Leonara Halim:
Itu sudah KEWAJIPAN :). Cuma ketahuilah seekor kerbau punya CO2 emission lebih banyak daripada semburan 1000 botol spray rambut.
Kat:
Thank you for understanding and most importantly for contributing more in helping prolong the life of our earth!
asmadi:
It's his loss :).
(Dalam CLEO May 2009, dia kata he turned vegetarian after reading Charlotte's Web at the age of 6. So I guess you'd get different interpretation from different target magazine. Hanya Christian Bale saja yang tahu and can admit to how big his balls are ;D)
YES, we should all try to be vegetarians for many reasons (you take you're pick). My reason for wanting to be vegan is to STOP SUFFERING.. but arguably, it's not easy. I really wanted to be vegan (no eggs/dairy). I failed. I tried vegetarian (with eggs/dairy). It was not easy as most veg. food are oily. The veg. shops try to emulate real meat (I don't believe in that). For the moment, I am a PESCETARIAN (do not eat land animals or birds, but consume fish & seafood, fruits, nuts, legumes & all types of vegetable.) Maybe that's a compromise many can start off with, until they can be full vegetarian.
Hi, I've been your silent reader for sometime now and I'm compelled to comment today because I heard your radio interview this afternoon! I was in my car, changing channels and I heard someone talking about yoga. I thought it was you and I was right. What you're doing is really awesome, hope everything works out for the best. BTW I'm trying to reduce plastic bag usage as my part for the environment. Note emphasis on TRYING
Bout the meat-eating issue, I believe we're all part of the ecosystem. Deers eat grass, lions eat deers, humans eat meat AND vegetable. Balances the whole thing. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I know some vegetarian ppl, theyre cool, I respect them. I seldom eat meat though because of the darn braces. So that makes me on your side?
That's my two cents. Take Care :)
You are my inspiration to be a vegetarian. Not fully, still can't rid of the seafood but, I'm trying. Insya Allah. You can do this, so can I right?
xo xo
kak ninie,
i fully respect your stand on being a vegetarian or pescetarian or ovotarian based on health issues. but you can't condemn the rest of us lesser beings for being carnivors as cruel. eating animals may not be a necessity, but definitely not prohibited. if a muslim is thought to be cruel cause he picks up the burger ramli spesel occasionally twice a week, isn't that the same as ruling him out together with the rest of the terrorists out there? i'm not being oversensitive, i'm just afraid that your nawaitu can be misinterpreted by others.
again, i can't stress how much i respect your resilient to avoid meat. does that mean you're a full vegetarian? i have a hare rama hare krishna friend who is a full vegan and he also subtracts onions and garlic from his diet. something about decreasing libido he said. good or bad, no?
i love reading ur blog & i'd love to drop by BEYOGA in the future (im currently in kuching).
i still eat meat but lesser now coz im trying to lose weight. maybe in time, i'll replace them altogether from my diet.
apart from that, im doing all i can to lighten mother earth's burden. and im glad sumone with ur reputation have so much passion about the subject. u r indeed an inspiration!
crazee patches:
Being a vegan and full vegetarian in Malaysia is almost impossible especially since ikan bilis, telur and belacan stock are almost in every sambal, kuih muih and nasi lemak.
So I love your word and suggestion, compromise :).
adil:
I used to think all guys with the name Adil are cute and I still think guys with braces are cute! He hee..
nuyui:
Yes, we can!
laily:
I love, love, love how you put it 'may not be a necessity, but definitely not prohibited'. That's exactly how I feel towards meat and COKE. So why consume them if we know they are bad for us and we definitely can live (if not live healthier) without them :)
n i e z a:
Thank you for seeing that and saying it so lovelily(?)!
I am just playing my part in enlightening my friends and family that livestock farming is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more environmental-harming than all fuel-guzzling, aerosol spraying and open burning put together!
Help me?
salam,
just wanted to tell the world that i dont eat meat by choice. i dont intend to become a vegetarian or anything of that sort. i just dont eat meat because it gives me stomachaches and takes me a few days to get it out of my system. so i figured it couldnt be good, since the meat stayed in me for a few days, unlike other types of food that gets out once a day.
meat=constipation= not good
just my 2 sen..
p/s: oh ninie, please la update a lot more pictures..bosan la ninie tak upload gambar mcm dulu2
Hi there, I was away and dont want to miss a line to my dear TYID for this post. Some say Our body meant for vege or seafood because our canine teeth not as sharp and long as lions or tigers' ones :)
how can you relate animals going to heaven and crashing an airplane?
and to say anyone's defense is selfish and shallow for loving meat is just arrogance from you and not portraying the right message on the benefits of going vegan.
I rather you just state whats the benefits of going vegan, and to moderately eat meat.
Sounds more genuine and not holier than thou. :) or i know better than you. If i'm healthy, eat meat regularly, and enjoy life, recycle a bit, is that wrong just because i eat meat?
you cant say outright that eating meat is unhealthy. at the end it all goes into moderation.
eat too much, you get problems. eat too little doesnt make much of a difference. some can eat meat. some cant eat meat (Smell, texture, religion, etc), some choose not to eat meat.
to put in religion here, if meat was ever ever dangerous to your health, would God ask you to slaughter a cow/goat? ahah! and why devise a proper way of slaughtering. might as well just chop the head and be done with it.
as much as i respect paul mccartney, i don't feel bad AT ALL reading the quote. I bet he thinks all slaughterhouses in the world is cruel.
Who understands sembelih anyway. Halal meat to some just means sold by muslims and for muslims. OMG.
i've seen some slaughterhouses that was shown on TV.
inhumane.
Can you imagine how an animal would feel knowing they're next in the chopping block. I know slaughterhouses here which emphasize on not stressing the animal. less stress, better meat.
plus you have to give props to sembelih. clean death. no blood. do it right and clean. its even wrong using a blunt knife. wrong in the eyes of god and wrong cause it mocks intelligence.. 'what idiot slaughters with a blunt knife..'
anyway.. its good to choose a healthy lifestyle. but your post sounds more like TELLING everyone who's eating meat that they're bad.
meat eaters are killing the world? really? I speculate that livestock farming emits more green house gasses. Its just industrialists trying to tell someone else is doing worse than them.
plus statistics can always be manipulated. maybe we need to choose the lesser of two evils. gas emission from industrial area/cars, or from livestock farming. Hmmm..
anyway, back to my point. you're stressing the wrong thing here. No one like to be labelled as earth killer. or that they are wrong. I love meat. i don't really care what you say, but I care that you, as a yoga instructor, should stress on the positives of going vegan, rather than the negatives of not being vegan.
I am just playing my part in enlightening my friends and family that livestock farming is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more environmental-harming than all fuel-guzzling, aerosol spraying and open burning put together!
You must be joking right? you are equating livestock farming, which has OTHER benefits, to fuel guzzling, aerosol and open burning? you're saying livestock farming is more lethal?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Livestock
livestock has its pros and cons. alpaca wool, milk, breed/work (horse) etc. not only meat. our methods are wrong and there are ways to correct it.
asking the world to stop eating meat is hard. eat less meat? why not just ask McD to use less meat in their burgers?
eat less meat to lose weight? eat less meat to be more bendy? better. eat less meat cause you're a sinner. what the... haha
get what i mean?
The solution, well is not impossible to tell everyone to stop eating or what but can you really make a difference? you think 1 billion light bulbs will suddenly go.. "AHAH! I'll stop eating meat"...
idealists will think it can. for the greater good.
realists will say, we need a bigger solution. cant expect humans to change. na-ah.
read the last section of the wiki page. its simple. Industry size problems must be met with industry size solutions. Lots of research is being done.
Capitalism aside, we need livestock farming for other purposes apart from meat too.
in the meantime, eating less meat is good too.we dont need a lot. just a nib is ok.
sorry but i'd have to agree with the previous two posts :(
err, just to add to the list of the famous and handsome celebrities who are complete vegetarians. i think it is no secret that Hitler was a strict vegetarian. and i wonder how much CO2 emission he helped to reduce ;)
by the way, my uncle in kerala, a remote village called palode in the district of palakkad to be exact is a lifestock farmer. he uses the waste from his chicken farm and two cows (whose milk his family of five and a few neighbors depends on every day) to generate bio fuel which he uses to cook and run his electrical appliances (a washing machine, a ten year old tv and a few bulbs plus and an fm radio).
he switches off his generator and go dark between 8pm to 9pm every single day because there is no need for lights during that time and then he switched them on again between 9pm to about 11pm because he's two grandchildren needs the lights to do schoolwork and the chicken farm needs lights ad some power to operate the autofeeder.
the power is off again until the next morning when he'll need bio fuel gas to cook, pump wate from his well, wash clothes etc.
he will not eat if there is no meat on the table. my uncle. a text book carnivore.
and i am absolutely confident that his chicken farm and his meat eating self are doing more harm than all the lights, wifi, laptop batteries, refrigerators and what nots being used at your BeYoga center, yes?
just so you know, lifestock farm is probably the sole reason some of our fellow human beings in some places can afford to pun food on their table.
