The Day Speed Is Not A (Fear) Factor

Dear Diary,

Firstly,
go buy Kosmo! today :)

Secondly, during my absence for the next three days for the first ever and highly anticipated Singapore F1 Night Race (Grand Prix In The City), I'll leave you with my experience of being a co-driver for 2 laps at F1 Circuit Sepang, last month.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

For weeks, I have been nagging and asking my Supertall if I am eligible enough for the Red Bull Female Driver Search ad I have been seeing on telly. I might be a fast driver (blame the 240bhp Batmobile) but I am not quite sure if I have almost sure I don't have the defensive driving technique and skills.

Supertall answered, "Go try lah. I'll train you. We'll start by playing Gran Turismo 4 that even Lewis Hamilton swears by."

"Ermm, your Xbox punya Need For Speed: Carbon tak boleh ke? Banyak supercar best-best!"

"That one for buta-buta driving langgar tembok sana. Kita GT4 on PS2 first, then we'll take to car to Sepang, OK?"

Eh, dia pulak yang excited.

Notwithstanding, before we even manage to do that, I received a call from Nuffnang informing that I am one of the lucky 5 Malaysian female bloggers to experience the speeding thrill of Red Bull Female Driver Search on Sepang F1 circuit a couple of Saturday evenings ago!

More than I expected,
Supertall was wayyyy more excited than I was!

So that Saturday evening, off to Sepang circuit we went.
(Oh, did you know that you can reach KLIA in only 20 minutes
using the new KL-Putrajaya highway?)

When we reached the circuit, aiyooo..
My mata almost terbeliak seeing bersepah and berderet-deret Ferrari, Porche, vintage Jaguar in front of my very eyes, racing against each other!

And then I saw and was introduced to this.

Integra DC2
that last year's Red Bull Female Driver Search winners / rookies use.
What a sweet baby.

"Errrr, can I take this baby for a spin? On this track?"

"Can, can! Later, in your dreams tonight ok? But take pictures now, can. Do lah all your yoga inside the car."

Tsk tsk..

With yoga and adidas, you can drive using your legs. Jangan main-main!

Shortly after, Irma, the Red Bull lady called after my endless and hopeless effort of driving their car (I personally think, she feared that I was going to fly on the car).

When asked how did Red Bull choose the five female bloggers,
they explained it was mainly based on hits (I thank you all my lovely 376,+++ readers).
And that apparently, I drive a fast car, hmmm..

"Ok girls, now Puteri, one of our winners from last year's search will take you on the track. Can you all handle speed?"

Speed, I can handle, lady.
But helmet hair, I cannot!

Driving an Evo VII engined SUV, I thought I can handle speed.
But after two laps of 280 t0320 km/h on straight lanes and 180km/h on corners
maneuvered effortlessly by Puteri,
I immediately felt carsick.

Suddenly I recalled one of the two fears I have: sea and speed.
I experienced the same effect I always get when I am on roller coasters.
I screamed my yoga lungs out for the first 10 seconds and then, I froze to stones.

I kid you not.

I was seen puking shaking when Puteri returned me to the pit.

Everybody got worried because I behaved like a mad woman
flexing around, twisting upside down in my helmet when I got out of the car.

The drive was exhilarating!
Out of the world madness!
Out of the body testimony!

And Red Bull was nice enough to offer my Supertall a ride too!
Although he looked more like Malaysia's next Angkasawan in the racing suit.

Unlike me, Supertall didn't get shaken at all!
I might not have his the balls for this.
How lah to be Red Bull's next Female Driver macam ni?

But again, maybe it was only the passenger-seat-trauma I was experiencing.
If it were me driving, mayyyyyyyyyyyyyyybe I can handle it.

After all, just like yoga, you don't get to be that good a driver in one day, kan?

With split open legs,
I thank Red Bull and Nuffnang for the unforgettable experience.

The Yoga Instructor is here if Red Bull wants a spineless ambassador :)

Red Bull dearest, can you imagine how nice this will look on your billboards? ;)

If you aspire to be the next Red Bull Female Driver Search winner (like me!),
click on the Red Bull Female Driver Search ad to my right-hand side panel
if it's not the Red Bull Female Driver Search ad you are seeing,
simply click this.

Some of the basic requirements are:
- FEMALE (Red Bull rep told me, ada jugak males yang apply tu)
- between 18 to 30 years old
- possess valid Malaysian driving license
- able to drive manual
- not taller than 5 feet
- super flexible
- blonde
- vain

(The last four are obviously fictional. Why soooo serious?
Just so that MY chance of being selected is higher.
Jahat kan?)

Application form and more non-fictional requirements can be found at
www.redbull.com.my/rbfds.

Winners will be given the opportunity of a lifetime to train under the trustee leadership of Kenvin Low, Chief Trainer of Asia Advanced Driving Academy (AADA) in preparation of Merdeka Millennium Endurance (MME) Race they winners get to represent Red Bull for, next year. Winners will also get massive coverage in local media, last years winners were featured in established magazines such as FHM and Harper's Bazaar (so the 'vain' requirement might not be so fictional afterall, innit?)!

Application closes on 17 October 2008.
(If I were to be even more cruel, I would have written 17 October 2009.
But then, mati hidup semula Red Bull wouldn’t wanna befriend me anymore. He hee..)

Not taller than 5 feet???
Now that's a discrimination against non-vertically-challenged ladies.

Firstly, on ruangan Kosmo : I tergelak when I read it; they really toned down your letter to them. Hehehe... your letter lagi elegant. Their 'toned-down' version ni mcm tak lulus SPM rumusan karangan je....

Secondly, I hate roller-coasters too. First time I naik, takde la tinggi sangat, or takde la panjang sgt, sekadar naik atas to only jatuh masuk air, but I still remember the feeling very well, it's terrifying. Especially masa falling tu...Rasa mcm you're looking at death in the face je. Never, never again.

Thirdly, Supertall looked gorgeous in the suit. First time nampak, I terus terpikir "Oh WOW!"

Hehehee.....

Allow me to quote Elite (alamak, skema-nye...) with regards to Supertall : "Manisnya senyumanmu...."
