The Day I Proved That One CANNN Finish RM30,000 In (less than) 30 Days

Dear Diary,

What you saw in TV on Saturday,
was pre-recorded in January.

So obviously, the RM30,000 was ALL spent towards materializing my dream. I was RM30,000 richer some three months ago but believe me, memang tak cukup beb RM30K to publish magazine that comes with free VCD per issue. Apatah lagi nak belanja all of you you ols' cool beautiful people. Serious!

Only RM30,000.
Only 3 weeks.

- To start a publishing company. From scratch.
- To start an office. Streamyx, phone line, PC, furniture, URL.
- To try to look my best and not go crazy and let show my clumsy-self in front of national tv whenever they called to say, 'Ok, Ninie. Where are you? What are you doing now? We are coming in half an hour to shoot you.'
- To form a team of graphic designers, art directors, writers, photographers, models, proofreaders.
- To try to stay within RM30K budget plan.
- To beg friends to help write.
- To beg models to help pose.
- To find sponsors. I heart adidas.
- To run back and forth to adidas HQ to get clothes for models.
- To shoot cover in the middle of hutan rimba.
- To beg to shoot in parks, gorgeous people's gorgeous houses.
- To try to look my best and not go crazy and let show my clumsy-self in front of national tv whenever they called to say, 'Ok, Ninie. Where are you? What are you doing now? We are coming in half an hour to shoot you.'
- To compile (and write most of the) articles.
- To put together articles, photos, design from PC to Mac. Leceh, susah dan sakit. Percayalah.
- To have to sleep in the office cum studio almost everyday in the three weeks so I can sleep at 3am and wake up at 6am so I can start working on the magazine again.
- To beg my designer to not crack (with me).
- To try to minimize typos, spelling and grammatical error.
- To find celebrity who yogas, videographer, post-production lab, audio house. Cheap. Free, if possible.
- To find and beg advertiser to put commercial ad to insert before and after the demo in VCD. I heart Nescafe. Their 1 Now 1 Nescafe ad series are breathtaking. Their Body Partner range is simply amazing.
- To try to look my best and not go crazy and let show my clumsy-self in front of national tv whenever they called to say, 'Ok, Ninie. Where are you? What are you doing now? We are coming in half an hour to shoot you.'
- To try to stay within RM30K budget.
- To try to stay within RM30K budget.
- To try to stay within RM30K budget.
- To edit VCD. At APV.
- To voice-over. At Imaginex. Lipsynching-is-hard. Leceh, susah dan sakit. Percayalah.
- To try to believe my luck in getting APV and Imaginex, the best and most expensive post-production lab and audio house in the region to help edit and master my minion VCD.
- To find printer, color separator that willing to print only a 1000 copies. Cheap.
- To try to stay within RM30K budget.
- To try to look my best and not go crazy and let show my clumsy-self in front of national tv whenever they called to say, 'Ok, Ninie. Where are you? What are you doing now? We are coming in half an hour to shoot you.'
- To find venue where to distribute magazine.
- To find printer for VCD.
- To beg my magazine printer to insert the VCD inside the magazine.
- To take care of the launch headache. Dina Zaman and Atilia, I feel you.
- To have to sleep in the office cum studio almost everyday in the three weeks so I can sleep at 3am and wake up at 6am so I can start working on the launch again.
- To try to look my best and not go crazy and let show my clumsy-self in front of national tv whenever they called to say, 'Ok, Ninie. Where are you? What are you doing now? We are coming in half an hour to shoot you.'
- To find VVIP to officiate the launch.
- To get cancellation from VVIP the very day before the launch.
- To find celebrity (instead) that can officiate at the very last minute. I heart Ida Nerina.
- To find caterer that can provide only white and red food. Cheap. That is still tasty. And tasteful.
- To find canopy service that understands I didn't want my launch to look like CNY celebration. Or circus.
- To take care of all the nitty gritty details of invitation cards, goodie bags, flowers, red carpet, banners, buntings, speech, yoga demonstration, press release, emcees, ushers.
- To try to look my best and not go crazy and let show my clumsy-self in front of national tv whenever they called to say, 'Ok, Ninie. Where are you? What are you doing now? We are coming in half an hour to shoot you.'
- To try to not go over budget.
- To try to not go over budget.
- To try to not go over budget.
- To try to not go over budget.
- To try to not go over budget.
- To 'sell my soul' to get press interviews and to appear on morning and midnight talkshows.
- To try to not faint when Rashid Salleh interviewed me LIVE on The Breakfast Show at ntv7, a day before my launch.
- To have to sleep in the office cum studio almost everyday in the three weeks so I can sleep at 3am and wake up at 6am so I can start working on the launch again.
- To try to not cry when I saw typos and misalignments in the magazine when they came off press. God knows I tried. So hard.
- To reply (well, I'm still trying!) to hundreds of e-mails asking where and how can they get the magazine from.
- To send and deliver all the bulks of 100 copies each to 5 different zipcoded adidas outlets BY MYSELF. Beratnya Subhanallah! Hearty thanks to superhuman Anna and zebra powered Zachary.

Did I mention

- that I have to continue teaching my yoga classes and running my studio in between?
- that since mid January I have been teaching at my studio ALONE, on my own for one instructor is on maternity leave and another just got pregnant?
- that the camera crews followed me everywhere and in everything I did during the three weeks?
- and that I had to compile every single receipt, payment voucher, proof of purchase for every single ringgit and penny spent in that RM30,000?

So yes, with RM30,000 in 3 weeks;

Alhamdulillah,
I got the magazine published.
I delivered exactly what I promised in the application form.
I learned that money can't buy time.
I discovered who are my true friends.

Please stay tuned to NESCAFE KICKSTART
every Saturday, 7pm at TV3 for the next 3 weeks,
to witness my pain, sweat and tears
in attempt to make my dream come true,
with only RM30,000 in 3 weeks.

All left is for me to pray and for you to

kindly vote for me

me and some of the STF girls went to adidas outlet in midval, nak tengok your mag. tinggal 1 je and they were not selling. and of course, none of us wanted to buy any adidas merchandise that day, jadi kami beramai2 membaca di kedai itu. haha. dan hailwa dengan comelnya memberitahu kepada mamat cashier tu, "ini our classmate dulu ni". hahaha.

you got my vote, babe.

and I've already ordered The Star from a friend yang pegi Court ini hari. me, stuck in the office but wanna see you in the paper. hehe. sedang menanti dia pulang bersama The Star ku.

wow.. what can i say, u've come a long way babe. i definitely know u deserve to win this and sorry for not being able to contribute to Hati Yoga (despite kinda promised to).

i'm proud of u!

p/s: love the mag, thanks :)

dude.

i know i don't usually say much of anything important, and that i don't usually take sides, but i'm sorry you had to say those things. i honestly am. and i am really, really sorry i'm reading this. i know you don't mean me (because i didn't say nothing), but it's spiteful, and i think you just hurt some well-meaning goons, sweetheart.

the next time you look in the mirror (and i know you do that all the time), look long and hard, and see if you can see the you (the old you) i see, despite all the makeup, branded clothes and glitz and glamor. then, maybe, you'll see why i'm still here, writing this, instead of just, you know, dissing.

i'm running out of steam here, because i'm starting to realize that maybe i haven't been paying much attention to who you've now become. my bad. peace out.
