The Day I Believe In The Power of (My) Dream

Dear Diary,

Although I have been busy but life has been good.

Some time in August, I saw an eye-catching advertisement over at TV3 about the upcoming season of Nescafe Kickstart. I thought to myself, if Malaysia was going to have The Apprentice of its own, this seems a little if not a lot like it. And if I would be in a local reality TV show, this is it. It is not cheesy and for once, it does not require singing or looking pretty. And it offers RM150,000 for its grand winner to kickstart their dream job!

It struck me that, one of the most radical if not absurd dream jobs shown and cartooned in the ad aside from Perfume Chemist, Ghost Hunter, Astronout and Marine Biologist was, Yoga Instructor.

You might raise an eyebrow. It's okay, for I did cringe and truth be told, I was a little bothered when I first saw the commercial. Not because the 'cute' thought of them considering being a yoga instructor could be someone's dream job but more of, what would be my ultimate dream job, that I could possibly be rich build an empire and be the first of such in Malaysia?

I am a yoga instructor (surprise, surprise). In average per month, I teach up to if not more than 70 amazing yoga enthusiasts but that is that. Since opening more centres and cloning myself are not my kind of options,

how do I teach more people yet still able to maintain the quality of my teaching?

I have been teaching yoga for close to 5 years and I have been told that I am good and getting better and better at this. I have been practising yoga for more than 6 years and have mingled in this field of industry long and well enough to know that there's market for this.

THIS.

This,

Task 1

is my ultimate dream;
To publish Malaysia's first yoga magazine that comes with free VCD per issue.

I completed the application form in September yet only submitted my application in October on it's closing date which serendipitily fell on my birthday, in hope to chip in some luck from my birthday (I was born on the '8'th) to get through the next round.

Lucky enough, out of 42,000 applicants, I was shortlisted as 120 quarter-finalists to be called and be auditioned at TV3. First it was luck, then I think it was fate. My luck and His fate. From the 120 hopefuls, alhamdulillah I am now one of the 8 semi-finalists to make it for the TV episodes. Out of the 8, 4 will be called finalists and be given RM30,000 each to kickstart their dream job and the most successful finalist will be granted RM150,000.

Spending a few months over at Yoga Is Where My Heart Is was part of my indirect plan to strengthen my dream.

I have and am still working towards branding Yoga and myself. Pictures taken, stances posed at every event and venue I attended and visited are part of my plan towards associating yoga in most parts of my life. I am lucky and grateful to have been featured in at least one magazine in every month of 2006, demonstrating if not being interviewed on yoga.

One of the judges (he is my current inspiration and my epitome of a successful young Malaysian) at Kickstart yesterday asked me, if that was me he saw for a billboard for soon to be opened Pure Yoga at Avenue K. I have not seen the ad but I told him I believe it was not me.

The judge made my day when he said, "Oh, I'm sorry but it seemed that from the audition day, everytime I see anything yoga, I think of you." Like, WOW! It's already working.

On the other hand, the first elimination based on our first task was held on Friday. I have to keep mum on who got eliminated until the episode be aired starting February 3rd, 2007. The most that I can reveal is that, I survive :)

The 8 hopefuls

To whom it may concern, though it may be hard for me to say this to someone younger than me, but for what short period of time we have been competing, I did learn a thing if not many from you. Continue on believing in what you think and you know you are good at.

My best of wishes and prayers to you and may we meet again in future, if God willing; with our dreams materialized.
