The Day He It Slipped Away

Posture for The Day: Downward-Facing Dog
(the ideal downward dog is when; you can get
your heels to touch the floor and your crown (head) to the ground,
with your legs straight and spine in.

P.S. You will need a good man mat to be able to do this,
or you'll slip and fall and hurt at places you shouldn't)

People always ask me;
- Which yoga mat is a good buy?
- Should I invest in buying expensive mat?
- Does every mat work for everybody?

..and my answer has always been;
1) NEVER buy Nike Yoga Mat priced RM79 at most Nike Women, as I (and most of my students) don't slip on the floor, but slip on the mat. Defeats the purpose of giving you better grip and support, really.
2) If you still swear by Nike, try finding Nike Pilates Mat
which is double-priced from the mentioned above at Rm159. Twice its thickness and triple the grip. But only if you're lucky you'll find it in stores, because they Just Do It (once in a blue moon) in Nike.
3) Also, never buy the allegedly yoga mat (mostly in blue) from fitness shops within the price range of RM40-ish to RM70-ish. Cheap yes, but your joints and safety are not.
4) The mats I get least complaints from are the ones selling at British India. Nothing fancy, but it provides maximum clasp and it has two different surfaces, one for you and another for your floor. Selling for RM120 each, and its stupid linen carrier for Rm69 each. Batteries not included Each sold separately.
5) The one I'm using in the demo above is from Selfridges London. Bar none the best man mat I've ever tried, but after Sterling to Ringgit conversion, the mat costed near to RM 560-ish.

And no, not every mat works for everybody. You might be fine with the one selling at fitness shops but not to the person next to you who has sweaty or very fine palms. And in some severe cases, you might need to wear designed gloves or even socks with clasps attached. No kidding..

And mats, like your other beloved belongings, the good ones are definitely for keeps but when taking care of them no longer seem possible and affordable, you just have to know when to stop using (and relying on) them;

..When they slip from your grip from time to time,
..When they keep making you fall harder and harder everytime around (afterall you turned to them to seek better support and hold),
..When they no longer bring out the best in you,
..And when you know you can actually survive (or even do better) without using one.

That's why, I don't really need a mat.
(I'm fine when doing yoga on the floor,
but I often slip on wrong mats.)

Metaphoricly speaking, you could definately slip of a good ma!I do yoga myself and use the same mat, but I do slip n fall hard at times not because of the grip or sweaty palms, but because I at times am not perfect like yourself and mess up my stance by getting distracted or what not, so please use the socks with clasps and the gloves at all times..... And dont just do it, it could be disastorous
